We are asking everyone who was friends or family of Paul to write letters to the DA and other government officials of Nevada to make sure justice is served.
On 4/9/10 Miranda Dalton murdered Paul Maidman. She flew up behind him at 85 miles an hour while he was stopped at a traffic light in a residential area, ramming his car with such force it slammed into a pole -- his car was not recognizable. She was more then double the legal limit for alcohol and had illegal drugs in her pocket. This was not the first offense for Miranda who didn't even mess up her hair; she has prior convictions for DUI and battery of an officer, alcohol related disorderly conduct and more. She also had no valid license at the time and 4 outstanding speeding tickets. After her last accident in February she failed to pay her victim restitution and instead bought the car she murdered Paul with.
At her hearing her friends laughed in the faces of Paul's family saying they will hold her tonight and have continued to harass his family and friends. They send messages and post on newspaper blogs that it's not such a big deal and everyone drives drunk. The list of crimes, and lack of moral character of this women and her associates could go on for pages. Paul was the exact opposite. Please write to the Nevada Senate, Las Vegas mayor Congress and Legislature and ask them to ensure Miranda Dalton, who has no regard for the law, no concern for the value of the lives of others, no personal accountability, and no remorse for anything she has done to her victims to the MAXIMUM PENALTY possible for her crimes with no leniency.

I am a police officer as well as a CSI, and have been for about 13 years. I have worked many, many DUI's and fatalities. I am sick and tired of working DIU fatalities where the drunk walks away and the innocent person dies. I offer my complete support in any way I can. Please let me know what I can do. I see the addresses for the DA and judges. I will start by emailing/mailing them. If there is NYTHING else I can do, please let me know.

Thank you Officer Kyle, wish there were more like you! The only way to stop DWI's to begin with is to pressure congressman to pass legislature to have mandatory ignition locks on all vehicles installed! We are not going to stop people from drinking, but we can insist that they cannot start their cars if they blow over the legal limit of .08. Imagine how many lives will be saved, inlcuding my nephew Paul, if you could just not start your car which is now a deadly weapon at the hands of an impaired driver!!

Hi Folks, Paul and I had been good friends since the mid 90s. Although I wasn't part of his normal circle we had visited each other several times over the years and kept in touch regularly on the phone and online. I am heartbroken today as I just learned of what happened. I hadn't heard from him in some time but I thought he was just busy with school.
I want to send my condolences to his family and other friends. I don't need to mention what a positive and warm influence he was on everyone around him. I am deeply affected by this.
I will write letters at a minimum. If there is anything his family needs or any other way I can help please contact me.

Hi, Im interested in ordering your Team Paul bracelets. I knew Miranda somewhat, but what she did is unforgivable. I no longer talk to her and do not hang out with her friends. I want to help support your cause by buying the bracelets. We are sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one suddently, especially by a murderer must be worse than any other tourcher imaginable. Please email me back so i can purchase these bracelets. Thank you.

She took out a beautiful life while under the influence of alcohol and drugs then somehow gets out of jail , proceeds back to the bars wearing a wig. She's prooved to be a menace to society with obviously no sense of remorse. She needs the most maximum penalty that the state of Nevado has to offer. She couldn't go the distance in that short time she was out of jail after taking Paul's life, why release something like that back in to society? The laws are geared to make this a safer place, right???

I just found out what happened this past Saturday. Paul has been my best friend for the last 12 years. He called me on March 30th for my birthday ≠
Dawn - we've never met but I've heard so much about you from Paul. I'm just dying inside over this. I can't believe I'll never talk to him again. It's just not fair, and I can only imagine how you and the rest of the family feel. I'd like to meet with you when I'm in L.V. this weekend if I can.
Please know I am here and I am going to fight with you and for you and for Paul to seek justice. I will not allow my friend to die in vain. So please please please let me know how to help. I'm definately writing letters to everyone on that list. I want to buy some Team Paul shirts and bracelets and anything else that you have.

I'm Dawn Winters sister. I never met Paul but I've heard so much about him from my sister. He sounded like an incredible person and to hear of this tragic news about him and everything I've read and heard about his killer makes me sick!
I am passionately advocating TeamPaul's message for stricter dui laws and punishments not only in the state of Nevada but elsewhere. I'm also advocating to all of my friends the dangers of driving while under the influence. It's just not worth it and apparently Ms Dalton blatently doesn't get that message. I will glady join your fight in getting justice for Paul. This woman needs to be put away for life before she kills someone else and finally gets it through her head the severity of what she has done. She has stolen precious life and needs to be held completely responsible for her actions.
I would like to help spread TeamPaul's message around and am also wanting to know how to purchase tshirts, bracelets, etc and what else there is we can do to fight for Paul's justice and other victims of drunk driving.
I am keeping Paul and all of his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers. He was so loved and I am so sorry for your incredible loss. Words cannot express how deeply upset I am by this tragic event. May God bless all of you and bring you peace and comfort in this time of sadness. RIP Paul.

miranda dalton had her mercy given to her when a Judge gave her a device to monitor her alcohol. She failed herself & her family. IT is time for Miranda to pay for her disregard of another's life & all those she could have killed the night she killed Paul. NO MORE 2nd, 3rd or more chances for Miranda. Her friend made a remark that just goes against my very fiber! She is a mother?? Her children need to be given to a family WHO will love them & take care of them & perhaps keep they from the Miranda's of the world. Time for the JUDGES to stop letting anyone with a DUI to ever step foot inside a car until they can prove over 1 yr to 5 yrs depending on the case that they will NOT be repeat offenders.

My heart goes out to Paul's family. I live in PA but if there's anything I can do please tell me. Really, anything. I'm praying for the family, for justice, and a measure of peace especially for his sister who is suffering so terribly. The family that is the DUI victims continues to grow exponentially and I would rather not be a part of it. The justice systems in the US and here in Canada needs to realize that the pain we suffer and will feel for life is real. There really is nothing we can say to help the family get through this. Sadly there will be many days of sadness. Our purpose in life is not necessarily to live to 100, it is to impact others with love and happiness and Paul did that in abundance. Remember the many great moments, they will help you to heal. All the best to everyone that have been blessed with Paul's existance.

I saw Paul's story on CNN, and am so sorry to hear about your loss. The woman responsible for this makes me sick.
I hope you can provide a means to accept donations to fight this. Though my wife is disabled and we are pretty poor, we and many others I'm sure would love to help with funds to aid your cause.
Though I occasionally enjoy drinking responsibly, I would love to see Paul's legacy involving the total, nationwide ban of Happy Hours and the like. That's perhaps the best you can do for him, and for our country.
Please keep me on your list, I would love to help in whatever means I can.
Take Care, Keep Up the Good Fight.

I saw your story on Anderson Cooper 360. I think this is a great idea. Although I live in Utah, I have relatives in Nevada.
To all the authorities involved: please try to understand that this family's loss is a loss to our entire society. This young man was the kind of person our country NEEDS to face the future. By allowing an irresponsible drunk driver to kill any person without receiving the appropriate punishment is unfair to our entire society.
May God bless your entire family with inner peace, and may Paul's life be a banner against drunk drivers.

My aunt was killed by a drunk driver. Some 18 year old punk took her life and was back behind the wheel in 2 years. There needs to be more severe punishment - especially for those with prior DUI's. This chick just doesn't get it. Hopefully losing her children, spending time behind bars and royally screwing up her future life will get her head on straight.
Pretty easy - Drink - don't drive. Many countries are changing the laws to have zero tolerance. Legal limit is 0.00%. Might be the way North America goes one day.
Anyway... saw your story on AC 360. Hopefully you find some resolution in your fight for justice.

Very sad and the drunk driver lives....Hard to except, again I feel your pain and I hope you can find peace and don't let the hate consume you and it good to see you put this site up for your brother, He would be very, very proud of his sister like all these people above me feel the same way.

My heart goes out to Mark and Family. This was a terrible tradgedy that never shouls have happened. I think it is dispicable to think that Miranda did not even think of the consequences of drinking and griving or maybe she did not even care, better yet she is a mother, what if she had killed one of her own children. i guess people like that have no conscience. The laws need to be changed totally on this drinking and driving ther is too much of it going on today. Just look at all the wrong way drunken driving that has happened in New York lately and the one that killed all those innocent people including her own kids. To the judge and all the other people involved in this upcoming trial just think what if she killed one of your loved ones because of her careless drinking and driving. she should be sleep deprived and shown continuous videos of what she did along with big time jail sentence then maybe it will sink in that this is not fun and games as to what she did. Mark if you need me to help with anything don't hesitate to e-mail me and give this letter to anyone in the courtroom with my blessing!!!!!!!!! you remember me from the store years ago in the avon days and at mahwah ford. Again i am terribly sorry for your loss!!!

The people of the U.S. need to step up and put an end to the free rides for these lawbreakers. This woman was a repeat if not a threepeat offender. This poor young man was a serviceman who served this country so that, this drunk could be free to drink if she choose to. He should not have died let alone die the way he did! This waste of space (who by the words of her own "friends") is a "good person, a mother, a daughter, a friend"-blah, blah, blah...TOOK A LIFE, then went and dyed her hair, added glasses and TAMPERED with a court ordered device issued to prevent her from drinking-and headed out to a BAR - WTF?! If she is/was "sick" and COULDN'T help herself, she sould have called 911 and told them SHE needs to drink and they should come get her before she hurt anyone else, BUT NO...SHE DOESN'T CARE...SHE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL STOPPED. PLEASE STOP HER FROM EVER DOING THIS AGAIN. CHANGE THE LAWS AND THROW AWAY THE KEY BEFORE SHE IS RELEASED AND DOES IT AGAIN AND AGAIN, AND BEFORE SHE TRAVELS TO OTHER LOCATIONS LEAVING A TRAIL OF DESTRUCTION BEHIND HER. A MOTHER IN DEED! AND SOME FRIENDS. They enable and should also be held accountable!

I lost my older brother, Danny, in 1970 to a drunk driver who killed three innocent boys as well as himself that day. Danny was only 19 years old. It saddens me that even after 40 years, our society still treats drunk driving simply as a nuisance, rather than the serious epidemic that it has become. RIP, Paul.

To Paul's family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. It is noble of you to overcome your pain enough to push for the safety of all of us by working for, beyond Dalton's punishment, harsher laws for all those driving drunk. My ex was previously arrested DUI with our two young children in the car. He was punished but he's punishment "free" now. I live in fear of a repeat with devasting consequences for me and my family or for the family of others.
I'm sure today is an incredibly hard day for you. You'll be in my thoughts. CHK

I heard about this terrible tragedy on national television this morning. I am very sorry for your loss of such a fine young man who had his whole life to look forward to. It breaks my heart that this happens again and again in this country. A few years ago our niece and her husband were hit from behind by a 5 time drunk loser without a license. They were pushed into the path of an oncoming semi and were both almost instantly killed. The semi driver hasn't worked since, and both sets of parents and extended families remain devastated. The drunken driver got 12.5 years per life he took. Don't let that happen here! I believe that in Brazil, if a drunk driver commits murder behind the wheel, it is an automatic life sentence.

Its time for us all to rise up and stand for the people that can no longer do so on there behalf. I am so sorry for your loss. it is just terrible that these type of people can't see the wrong of there way, that they would resort to standing up for a person that does not care for them self nor there friends. The friends that stands up for her would feel much different had it been one of there loved ones i am sure. I want you to know that I am available to your cause, if you should need me to help in anyway please don't hesitate to contact me.
Our law's everywhere need to be modified so that people with this type of problem are not allowed to continue to do harm to them self and inocent people. This is a very old story that seems to always end in the same way, where a person like Miranda Dalton will find a way to drink....they do not care the end result of there drinking otherwise they would not do so. If the so called friends that want to stand up now and say how good of a mother, talk about how she has all thse problem...."where the hell were you the night she KILLED PAUL" why were you not there to drive here to where she wanted to go...THIS IS YOUR SO CALLED FRIENDSHIP. don't stand up for her now that she has KILLED Paul, a loved one that is now gone becasue you did not care enough for you so called FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! you ^%@$#
you need to go after the place that provided the drinking that put this person over the limit. All drinking establishments need to be held accountable as well, tell me that no one in that place knew that Miranda and many others were well beyond DRUNK and should not have been behind the wheel of a vehicle. Which brings to light the device that was put on Miranda...this is a joke that the judge would rely on some electronic device that failed to work properly for whatever reason....if this Judge felt this stong to order her to wear this device, he should now put her behind bars where she belongs. her picture should be posted at every place that provide achoholic beverage as a do not sale to this person and any other offender.

My heart sank when I saw this on the news this morning. I am in tears after watching the memorial video posted on this site by his sister. My thoughts, condolences and prayers are with Paul's soul, his family and friends.
Knowing the driver went right back to drinking/clubbing after making bail says to me that she has absolutely no remorse or regret for what she has done to this wonderful human being, his family and friends. I truly believe bail should not have been raised, it should have been revoked, PERIOD!
Seeing scenes like Paul's accident scene, over and over again sends the same question yelling at the top of my voice from my mouth...."When are we going to start shutting down the bars that continue to serve obviously intoxicated patrons more alcohol???" Dalton is completely to blame for her actions, but what is being done to the bar who continued to serve her drink after drink and allow her to leave their parking lot behind her wheel??!!
If I have one or two drinks a YEAR, that is a lot. When I go out with friends I drink Sprite all night. Still...I can understand the average person going out for a beer or two, here and there, I know I am the exception to the rule. I have watched bartenders serving drinks to people who couldn't stand up straight.
BARS NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!!! There are laws in most states against any bartender serving a patron who is obviously intoxicated. Unfortunately, most bars refuse to turn customers away, looking at their financial bottom-line before the safety of the patron and the public.
I am sure the bar she was at has a bouncer to keep people out of the bar for whatever reason. When are the bars going to be made responsible for not allowing the people to get totally plastered, or at least making sure they don't leave in anything but a taxi or a sober friend's car?
I hope Paul's family and friends do everything they possibly can to bring charges against the bartender(s) and the drinking establishment. Only when victims families bring charges against the bars for over-serving patrons, will we see the bars start to take the responsibility that is theirs already! I hope Paul's family and friends organize a boycott of the bar, picketting, bringing legal charges against the bartender and owner, and sue. Only when the families of victims of drunk driving accidents do this will the bars start taking the responsibility seriously that they have under the laws already on the books!
Hugs full of luv to all who are being impacted by this tragedy,
Chris Green
P.S. You should have a link for people to donate to the cause, from Paul's funeral expenses to and including a legal fund for any suits to be brought in the future. I would like to donate. If there is a way, let me know. =)

Sadly, there is no justice for victims of crime anymore... The laws have been twisted by the lawers. The judges are corrupted by either their own apathy or their own personal desire for fame and celebrity. They preside over disgraceful proceedings in which they knowingly permit the victims to be blamed and the murderers to walk free. Take what comfort you can from the fact that 50 years from now... no one will remember any of this. Our condolences for your loss and for the loss of American justice.

Hello,
My name is Rev. Jerry Fletcher. My wife and I just saw your story on CNN. Needless to say, the impact it had on us encouraged us to contact you. We are in Green Bay, Wi and are going to be starting a church here called New Vision Fellowship, we have a desire to be a new kind of church that has a major presence and impact in our community. You may or may not know already that Green Bay is most known for the Packers, but alcohol is a very close second. We have been discussing in our meetings how we can start a program here that raises awareness about drunk driving as well as offers a volunteer based safe ride program for those who can't afford a taxi. We felt that MADD had a big enough presence already in this area but because of their familiarity, they go ignored for the most part. We would like to find out how we can help you spread the message of Team Paul beyond Nevada... The story and the drive behind this movement is more current and relevant to today's lifestyle than any other movement from the past. We would like to be a part of Team Pau; and help get your message heard around America using the most important element of Christianity... LOVE. We believe that we can help make a major impact while spreading the word about this tragic story. It's important for people to know that WE WILL BE WATCHING!

I would also be willing to donate money to this cause, in rememberance of Paul, my brother Danny, and all other innocent victims of these drunks who destroy lives in pursuit of their own self-serving goals. It is so sad to see that this horrible situation continues to happen over and over. My little sister was killed by a drunk driver while she was waiting to turn right at an intersection. Instead of being rear-ended like Paul, she was hit head on and crushed. She was 18 years old.
Her killer walked out of jail after 20 months in a county lock up. The whole thing was just pathetic. I so admire your strength and determination to push through the hurt and numbing pain to speak out about the unfairness and stupidity of our courts by allowing this "slap on the wrist" mentality that continues to put these alcoholics behind the wheel of a car!
3 years after we lost my sister, this man's own sister was killed by a drunk driver. I like to think that this made an impact on him that no amount of rehab. could have brought him to.
Peace and Light to Paul's Family & Friends

So now the establishment and families of people who work for a living must suffer along with the families of those who make poor choices.
We work, we pay taxes, and we are authorized to buy booze. Subsequently, people are surprised when we consume too much, are poured too much, or cash in our judgement. Want to lobby? Lobby to CHANGE YOUR LIQUOR LAWS!!!!
Las Vgas doesn't give a shit, and neither do bar owners.
I have never hurt a soul, but have had my professional career taken, and have struggled for years.
What she did was shit, and her restitution was as well, but the actions of a bufoon do not dictate that the rest of us should be punished.
Missing a loved one is a hoel in the heart, causing us to lash out, but let's lash out specifically, not at the whole deal, because there are too many problems to list...
Yes. Yes. Let's stone her in public. I can make a cross. How ridiculous does this sound? So much for modernization...

CNN TRANSCRIPT (Aired August 4, 2010 - 22:00 ET)
When an Air Force veteran was killed by a drunk driver, his family and friends turned to his Facebook page to pay tribute to his life but also to track the woman who took it. Here's Ted Rowlands.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
TED ROWLANDS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Paul Maidman was 28, a student up pulling an all-nighter. At 3 a.m. on a Friday, he went out to make copies and buy an energy drink. He was killed by a drunk driver.
DAWN BUIST, MAIDMAN'S SISTER: It's by far the worst day in all of our lives.
ROWLANDS: Paul's sister Dawn says her brother was a computer genius who served eight years in the Air Force, had a great job, and was working on a degree because he wanted to run for political office.
BUIST: To get to that point that everybody wants to be at in life, to have it stolen from him in the middle of the night like that is so -- so unbelievable. It's so unfair.
ROWLANDS: Paul Maidman left something behind. A few years ago, he created a Web site to keep up with friends. He called it Team Paul. And as a joke, he made a "Team Paul" T-shirt with his face on it. Now his family is using Team Paul to fight for justice against the driver who killed him.
(on camera) Maidman was sitting at this intersection, waiting for the light to change when he was hit from behind. You can see the yellow lines in the road here showing how his car was pushed all the way across the road into this pole. His car came to rest over here where these yellow boxes represent the placement of the tires of the vehicle.
Maidman died on the way to the hospital. Police say the person that hit him was traveling at more than 80 miles per hour.
(voice-over) The driver is 29-year-old Miranda Dalton. Police say she never used her brakes. Earlier, she'd been out drinking, $1 cocktails on ladies' night at this Las Vegas country bar.
On the bar's Web site, they actually have video of Dalton dancing from last year, and she posed for this photo the night of the fatal crash.
According to the police report at the accident scene, Dalton's speech was so slurred an officer thought she had a foreign object in her mouth. Her blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit, and she had a prior DUI conviction in 2001. On the day of Paul Maidman's wake, two things happened. Dalton was released on bail, and Team Paul came back to life. The Web site and a new Facebook page became a rallying point to urge people to pressure the legal system not to go lightly on Dalton.
It also became a spontaneous surveillance network. Within weeks, people were starting to report on Dalton's whereabouts. Then, on what would have been Paul's 29th birthday, his sister got a call.
(on camera) The call came from this Las Vegas bar. The caller said that Miranda Dalton was inside partying.
(voice-over) The court had ordered her not to drink. She was wearing an ankle device to detect alcohol.
BUIST: Something came over me. I said, get in your car, just go there, see for yourself if she's even actually there.
ROWLANDS (on camera): When she arrived, she found Dalton inside, got out her cell phone, and started taking pictures.
(voice-over) The photos show Dalton with her hair dyed and wearing glasses. When a judge saw the photos and learned the ankle device might have been tampered with, she raised her bail to a half million dollars, and Dalton was back in jail.
MIRANDA DALTON, SUSPECT: Miranda Dalton.
ROWLANDS: Dalton pled guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced this month. Maidman's family attended this hearing wearing Team Paul T-shirts.
Outside, Dalton's friend defended her.
MELISSA ALDERMAN, FRIEND: There's more to her than just the accident that happened that night. There's a lot more to her. She's a mother. She's a friend. She's a daughter. I mean, her choices were wrong, clearly, obviously. But to try to push for a harsher penalty, I don't think it's going to do more justice.
ROWLANDS: About 3,000 people are on the Team Paul Facebook page. They agree it is about justice.
BUIST: It can never be hard enough on her, ever. Because she's done it before. And she would do it again. And the next time it could be my child or my neighbor's child.
ROWLANDS: Paul's family is hoping to grow Team Paul even bigger. They'd like to see it push for harsher drunk driving laws around the country so other families don't have to suffer like they are.

COOPER: What a strong family.
